Growing up in America, commercials often only showed certain parts of Africa or brainwashed the media to think that Africa is a country with no resources, no water, starving children, or mostly surrounded by poverty.

As I grew older I realized that was not true at all. It is just like every other country, if not better. Of course, there are parts of Africa that have poverty, but so does every other country.

When I was a little girl, because of the commercials I witnessed on TV, they made me think that they had no cars, water, money, or stores. As I've grown older, I've realized how powerful Africa is, hence why many other countries go there to get their resources.

I now have a desire to travel to Africa and see how beautiful a country it is. In schools, we talked about continents, but it never was a topic on how Africa is one of the largest continents. I even realized in school, they made Africa appear smaller on the maps.

I am glad that I have learned that Africa is the most beautiful country that many African Americans have not witnessed themselves.
